Taking place in Warsaw from Thursday 13 - Saturday 15 June, registration is now open for The Global Forum on Nicotine 2024 (GFN24), themed ‘Economics, health and tobacco harm reduction’. In addition to the public health opportunities offered by safer nicotine products for harm reduction, participants will consider the economic benefits offered by the approach, including associated healthcare savings - and the potential costs of prohibiting safer products while combustible tobacco remains universally available.

Key sessions planned for GFN24 include:

The only international conference to focus on the role of safer nicotine products in helping people quit smoking and risky tobacco use, GFN is now in its eleventh year. With affordable pricing, simultaneous translation and selected online sessions available free, the event prioritises innovation, accessibility and broad participation.

In contrast to the recent tenth Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC COP10) in Panama, GFN invites all who have a stake in the future of tobacco and nicotine policy to take part. The audience includes tobacco harm reduction consumers and advocates, researchers, scientists, policy experts and safer nicotine product manufacturers - meaning GFN is somewhere people who may not otherwise meet come together to share perspectives and experiences.

GFN24 Conference Director Jessica Harding says she’s looking forward to an energised and engaging event as consumers regroup following COP10. “Focusing on the economic impact of tobacco harm reduction will allow the audience at GFN24 to consider the issues through a fresh lens - we’re excited to be bringing on board new expert speakers to offer their insights on this. And with yet more creative opportunities for people to get involved with the conference, there’s lots to look forward to.”

The Global Forum on Nicotine’s broadcast arm, GFN TV, will again provide live commentary on the event, and all who register have the opportunity to contribute content and share tobacco harm reduction research, advocacy or views. Since 2021, when conference posters were replaced with short, video presentations called #GFNFives, over 150 have been published.

Submissions are open for 2024’s #GFNFives, although those keen to develop their filmmaking further may consider entering the GFN Film Festival. New for this year, submissions of narrative, documentary or animated films exploring all aspects of tobacco harm reduction are invited, with a prize for the ‘Best in Fest’. At the ScienceLab, another new addition, a selection of science-based #GFNFives will be presented in more depth by their authors. All #GFNFives and Film Festival entries must be submitted by Wednesday 15 May 2024.

Registration is open now, and accommodation at the Warsaw Marriott can be booked at a discounted rate until Friday 10 May. In-person attendance is required to participate in the full programme, but selected sessions will be streamed at no cost for registered participants unable to travel. Simultaneous translation into both Spanish and Russian will be available both onsite and online for numerous sessions.
