GFN Fives & Science Lab

Overview

Our replacement for conference posters, #GFNFives are five minute videos, with formats including slideshow with voiceover, animation, or recorded presentations, which cover policy, legislative and regulatory issues, consumer advocacy, regional updates and more general information about tobacco harm reduction. All non-science related videos submitted in this category will be eligible for consideration for inclusion in the GFN Film Festival, which runs during the conference. Get inspired by browsing the back catalogue of GFN Fives here.

Scientific #GFNFives will be considered for inclusion in the #ScienceLab sessions during the main conference programme. The content for these scientific #GFNFives might include lab-based research, epidemiological research, modelling, market research on consumer behaviour, discussing results – or expected results – of studies. Those accepted for a #ScienceLab session will be given 15 minutes – including the time to show the five minute video – to present and discuss their work. If selected, authors will need to attend GFN 2025 in person.

Submission Process

You can submit as many #GFNFives as you wish. To make a submission, log in or create a new user account, sign-in, and complete the film submission form.

Possible formats for your #GFNFives include:

  • PowerPoint video presentations, with audio and/or video accompaniment;
  • Descriptive videos demonstrating new science and/or technology;
  • Short interviews or commentaries on specific issues;
  • Animation to illustrate an issue

We welcome #GFNFives which are not in English, but we do ask that you supply English subtitles in closed captions. You can easily add these to your video using YouTube.

We will require up to 3 weeks from the date of submission for processing your work.

The closing date for submissions is 14 May 2025.

The organisers reserve the right to determine what is published and ask that the content should be in the spirit of the conference in that it avoids any promotion of particular brands and/or organisations/companies and does not place the organisers in any legal jeopardy.

GFN Fives selected for inclusion will be posted on the #GFN25 website and will remain online as part of the archive site for the conference.
