Description

Addressing the growing influence of harm reduction in scientific and policy debates, the theme was‘Reducing Harm, Saving Lives’, with the programme reflecting the rapidly developing science in relation to nicotine use and the changing policy landscape, including the recognition of the potential role for harm reduction in this process. The Michael Russell Oration, entitled ‘Drug control and tobacco control: parallels, reform and advocacy’,was delivered by Ethan Nadelmann, emphasising how the debates on tobacco harm reduction could learn from history and in particular from meaningful inclusion of consumers in doing so. This year also saw the first edition of the International Symposium on Nicotine Technology (ISoNTech) which has been a regular forum feature since.
