Karin Jacobson is the Science Advocacy & Engagement Director at Japan Tobacco International (JTI), based in Geneva, Switzerland. In her role, Karin drives understanding of the science behind tobacco- and nicotine products. She leads a team of scientists, developing scientific messaging and material based on rigorous and comprehensive analysis of scientific literature and research findings. Prior to joining JTI in 2017, Karin built extensive experience in pharmaceutical science and holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Basel, Switzerland.

Anna Masser works as a Scientific Writer in the Product Science group at Swedish Match. In this role, Anna focuses on scientific publishing as well as aiming to make the company’s science understandable for everyone. She holds a PhD in Molecular Biosciences from Stockholm University, where her research centered on understanding how cells regulate protein homeostasis.

Paweł Woźnicki, Research & Development Specialist at Chemnovatic, focuses on the development and optimization of technological processes in the nicotine industry. His work involves improving purification methods, analyzing and reducing trace impurities in nicotine, and advancing analytical techniques to ensure the highest product quality. Paweł is also involved in exploring innovative solutions and continuously improving production standards. With a strong commitment to progress, he plays a key role in strengthening Chemnovatic’s position as a leader in high-purity nicotine solutions.

Since 2015, Sébastien Soulet has been employed at Ingésciences, a private and independent research laboratory. He developed the U-SAV vaping machine and several instruments dedicated to the analysis of the physical and chemical properties of vaping products. In 2021, he earned a Ph.D. with a thesis entitled “Thermodynamic Contributions to the Understanding of Electronic Cigarette Functioning.” He has authored 12 scientific publications, including two highly cited critical reviews, and has presented his work at international conferences. His expertise has been recognized through active contributions to standardization committees such as AFNOR, CEN, and ISO. Notably, a recent standard on direct-lung inhalation regimes was developed based on his research. His work aims to bridge scientific rigor with public health relevance in the field of vaporization technologies

I trained as a chemist at Imperial College, London, and MIT followed by 9 years in pharmaceutical research. This was followed by 10 years in process R&D in the generic pharmaceutical industry. Since 2000 I have worked as an independent contractor for the chemical sector specializing in peptides and chemicals for the nuclear reprocessing sector. I started work with Zanoprima in 2017 helping to develop the industrial nicotine process and formulations for vaping and oral pouches. I joined full time in 2022 in charge of process R&D and manufacturing.

Gizelle Baker is Vice President of Global Scientific Engagement leading the team in communicating Philip Morris International’s (PMI’s) science towards a smoke-free future. Originally from Canada, Gizelle pursued her passion for science and public health at the Medical University of South Carolina in the USA – where she obtained a PhD in Biometry and Epidemiology. At PMI, Gizelle is responsible for the scientific engagement strategy and ensures the company’s scientific communications are accurate, transparent, and always based on the latest evidence. Gizelle is a key figure in the tobacco harm reduction movement and a talented public speaker who also uses her platform to promote women in leadership.
