Description
The First Global Forum on Nicotine take place at a time when science and understanding of nicotine was rapidly changing, with new nicotine delivery systems, along with other lower risk alternatives to smoking, forcing rapid changes in public understanding, and the regulatory landscape. It also coincided with the adoption by the EU of a new Tobacco Products Directive, the consultation on the deeming proposals from the FDA in the USA and the impending Sixth Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. This initial event attracted 220 participants, from 26 countries, with 20% being consumers of the new, safer products. We then determined to establish this conference as an annual event.
