Advocates for tobacco harm reduction (THR) in most countries face very fierce opposition. Often the resistance is extremely nasty and includes vicious personal attacks. It’s important to be aware that previous new drug harm reduction interventions faced similar attacks which generally lasted for many years. THR opponents have a very weak case to argue and have to defend much less risky nicotine options being more restricted than deadly cigarettes. Also, many THR opponents were deeply scarred battling against tobacco companies who behaved reprehensibly. It’s important to try to remain polite and respectful. Evidence does sway some people & the evidence for THR keeps getting stronger.
