Welcome to the website for the seventh Global Forum on Nicotine - GFN20. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to meet in person. Yet this is a critical time in nicotine science, policy and tobacco harm reduction. We did not want to miss the opportunity GFN gives us to share the latest research, discuss ideas and solutions, and spark debate.
We are therefore bringing you an alternative, online GFN20, free to access and open to all. It’s time to save the date! Speaker presentations will premiere online on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June 2020. Our theme is ‘Nicotine: science, ethics and human rights’. Together, we will examine advances in nicotine science, the ethical arguments in favour of tobacco harm reduction, and the human rights issues for all those who advocate for the right to health.
Marriott Hotel, Warsaw, Poland
The structure of GFN20 is of course very different to previous editions of the conference. We are sorry that we cannot bring you all the speakers who were set to appear at the live event but we are very grateful that so many have agreed to adapt to the virtual conference. Speakers have recorded their presentations and these will premiere (with virtual coffee breaks scheduled!) on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June. The videos will then be made available for viewing at any time. You can take part in GFN20, for free, wherever you are in the world.
Feeling nostalgic for previous GFN events? Or perhaps you couldn’t make it? Want to see presentations addressing themes from ‘A different kind of endgame’, to ‘Evidence, accountability, transparency’, ‘Reducing harm, saving lives’, ‘Rethinking nicotine’ or ‘It’s time to talk about nicotine’? Don’t forget that content from past conferences can always be accessed in our conference library.
Each year, GFN attracts participants from a hugely diverse range of groups, professions and disciplines. These include scientists, policy analysts, regulators and standards experts, academics and researchers, parliamentarians, public health professionals, consumer advocates, and developers, manufacturers and distributors of alternative nicotine products. Each brings a different perspective, contributing to our belief that GFN truly is the only place where science and policy meet.
The GFN conference team is already making plans for our return to a less virtual and more convivial live event in Warsaw from 17 - 19 June 2021. We are looking forward to welcoming you back in person; please watch the website for further details on registrations and abstract submissions later this year.
