This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to meet in person. The event, which was due to take place June 11 – 13 in Warsaw this year, has been cancelled. The decision to cancel the Warsaw event has been taken in the light of the rapid development and severity of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the steps being taken by governments worldwide to combat the spread of the virus.
Yet this is a critical time in nicotine science, policy and tobacco harm reduction. We did not want to miss the opportunity GFN gives us to share the latest research, discuss ideas and solutions, and spark debate. We are therefore bringing you an alternative, online GFN20, free to access and open to all - see here for more details.
KAC Communications is an organisation rooted in the philosophy of harm reduction and belief in the principles of evidence-led public health policy. We feel that it is incumbent upon us to do all we can to protect the health and wellbeing of our conference participants, speakers, exhibitors, suppliers, venue staff and our own team. We also understand that making any plans for international travel at this time is fraught with uncertainty for all of us.
Conference fee refunds will be available for delegates who have already booked, and we will be offering deferrals to our planned 2021 event as an option. Please bear with our team – we will be in touch as soon as possible.
Our team is now working to create online materials, the details of which we will publish in due course, to keep you in touch with the work of some of the speakers who would have presented at the conference this year. This digital ‘event’ will be free of charge and open to all.
We are so sorry that we will not be together with you, our friends and colleagues, in June, for what would have been the seventh year of the conference. GFN has been a highlight of our year since it began in 2014, when 200 people attended from 26 countries. In 2019, we welcomed more than 600 people from over 70 countries. Each year, our community has come together to share expertise, learning, debate and discussion about nicotine science and policy. GFN has and will continue to be a space to support consumer resilience and advocacy, foster professional networks and start many friendships. We are all looking forward to welcoming you back to the Global Forum on Nicotine in 2021.
Please follow @GFNicotine on Twitter, @gfnicotine on Facebook, subscribe to our newsletter or keep an eye on https://gfn.net.co/ for updates on the forthcoming virtual event. In the meantime, we wish all of you continued good health.
